Wireless card are they always transmitting RF signals ?

Hi, could use some help understanding how the wireless card works inside my laptop.
My laptop has no manual switch on the outside to turn off the card so does this mean it`s always transmitting? I`m connected to a hard line and have the wireless feature turned off on my router.

How do the cards work do the just recive signals or do they transmit signals to connect to the signals in the air?

Hope someone on here can explain in detail, no offence but I`m not looking for answers like, maybe this or that should work.

Thanks for your time:cool:

They receive and transmit. If you disable the wifi it shouldn't be transmitting but I dont know for sure.

They receive and transmit ? I had a computer guy tell me the only receive signals  Ok really who knows?

I know there is an antena around my screen but that should only be for receiving like a radio right ? that why they are called receivers but a WiFi card?

Why would it matter what brand or model of computer it is?

I have no switch and in the software there is no option to turn it off only to use broadband or WiFi networks, so it is missleading wether it`s on or off.

Crazy how much RF polution is out there not to mention the fact that your neighbours could be unwittingly poluting your living space.

It has to transmit and recieve. It is 2 way communication. If a computer shop told you they only recieve then find another computer shop.

As for whether it is transmitting that would be difficult to tell. You can disable the device with software, ie in device manager. Whether or not this physically powers the device down is anyone's guess. Most laptops have a physical button to disable the radio or a software program that would do it.

That being said I don't think wifi signals are harmful.

WiFi cards transmit and receive, just like a 2-way radio and cell phone there is data being sent to and from the client and access point. Radio stations are examples of receive only, where you are only listening.

The wireless card is always transmitting and receiving, even if it's just sitting idle.

Do you know if there is any RF when the device is disabled in device manager?
I never actually took out a spectrum analyzer to find out for sure, but I would assume no, if the device is inactive it shouldn't transmit anything.

Thanks for the feed back guys,

I`m still waiting for my RF meter to arrive & then I will know for sure what is going down... I can always just pull the card or at least undo the antenna wires from it if it is still puking out RF signals.

I would like to know at what range & strength the computer is sending out signals 100 square meters? @ 3GHZ ?

Yes Rf waves from WiFi is dangerous they are very high frequency microwaves that pulse or cycle waves anywhere from, guessing as low as 300 million times a second up 8 billion times a second or 8 GHZ. Sounds scary when it`s explained that way no?

youtube dangers of wifi in schools or smart meters then watch the other vidz on cell towers and cell phones then the emf stuff like how dirty electricity is ruining your heath. I took out all my compact fluorescent lights and felt a huge difference in my mood and energy not to mention I don`t want to munch out as much ether, ^&%$$$$ crazy how many different ways this stuff affects you.

Forgot to metion my concentration also picked up, bonus :]

Before discrediting your thoughts on RF dangers I'll answer your questions first.

802.11b/g/(n) operate at 2.4GHz (2412Mhz - 2484Mhz), and 802.11a/(n)/ac operate at 5Ghz (4915Mhz - 5825Mhz).

Typically most wireless cards don't transmit using more than 100mW of power.

Pulling the antenna will NOT stop it from transmitting, you need to cut power to the transmitter.

Alright now to discredit you. There have not been any confirmed reports of health issues when being exposed to typical WiFi and cellular radio waves, the extremely low power that these devices output is nothing compared to the kilowatt transmitters that you see on broadcast towers, which is where the real danger is. The reason for the lights is more so psychological than anything radio related, bright white florescent lights are much less soothing than a typical warm 60W bulb, it has nothing to do with dirty energy.

Electromagnetic pollution.ur own research to each there own, the science is out there you just have to dig & dig.

I tested the signal output from my PS3 controller from about 1 cm from the meters antenna so about the same reading that your hands would be getting blasted with not to metion the blood that is circulating through your body :|

2.528 micro Watts per cm square !
That`s a shit ton of radiation since the Bio initiative report for 2007 was stating o.1 micro Watts per cm square or 610 mW/m and the NEW 2012 report was lowered stating that the safe levels are 0.0003 to 0.0006 micro Watts per cm square :|

Peace out.

Not that this thread needs anything else, because wrx, aasti, and bigfella know their stuff, but if your are worried about the radiation from a wifi intenna, you're looking at the wrong end of the scale. Compared to a fm transmitter, citizens band transmitter, radar, or UHF transmissions wifi is a nonissue.

It is one of those things that if you taped it to your head and constantly had it on full power, after a long while it might start to do some damage, but at such low power, even if you used a device for 8 hours straight, you have more to worry about from microwave background radiation than you do from a PlayStation controller and there is not a damn thing you can do about the former.

I pity people that are constantly paranoid and afraid of everything, to always be on edge about everything and thinking every single little thing is a conspiracy, it must be exhausting

Im guessing T-Rex is not a fan of Microwave Ovens. And If your so afraid of Radiation, there is no way to get away from it. We get tons from the sun daily.

Not to make fun of him, but I kinds want to tape a controller to.my skull now just to have something to do.

But I get why people are like that. Just remember, just because you are paranoid don't mean someone isn't after you.

There are times when it is right to be suspicious, but when every single piece of known evidence points to there being nothing to be scared of, it is time to drop it. The evidence that there is nothing to be afraid of is out there and the evidence to say otherwise is, 99% of the time, unfounded. If there was a massive risk to health, we would know about it.

They are making a huge fuss over 9 people having the coronavirus because one already severely ill person caught it from human to human contact. With 7 billion people in the world, there is a lot of fear over 9 people having it because it could spread. We are expecting this year to have more networked devices than there are people on the planet. If having universal coverage was going to kill everyone or severely harm everyone, we would know about it and would pull the switch on it. Even though this networking is now central to our infrastructure, it would be more beneficial to get rid now than later if there is evidence it will kill us all or make us weaker. You cannot have a strong and healthy country when you are weakening the people in it.

Of course, logic doesn't hit some people, because they are of the few "enlightened" people that aren't buying into the lies of corporations and governments

Get away from your computer. Do you know how much harmful energy is being generated while you are at it? Better live in a lead box in Alaska.
