I have an old dsl modem, Linksys adslme1, that I used to have linked to my current computer (and current network card realtek rtl8029(AS)). I haven't used it in a couple years and since then I've upgraded from windows 2000 to windows xp. Now I'm trying to use it again and the computer won't recognize it. The link seems to be established (the LAN link light is lit on the modem and the light on the network card is lit) but the local area connection says little or no connectivity and there is only an autoconfig ip address assigned. I am renting a modem from my service provider and all that works fine. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the fact that the new modem is connected with cat5 patch cable and the old modem is connected with a crossover cable (the modem requires it).
The realtek driver installed is 5.08 which seems to be the same from windows 2000.
Whats going on? Why am I having trouble with the modem now? My limited knowledge of is tapped out and the Linksys people are of no help.
