The first question here is how are you trying to install SP2? Are you downloading it through the Microsoft update link or installing from a disk? One thing to be sure of when trying to install any service pack or new software is to disable any antivirus programs or firewalls that are active. That will hamper efforts to install many programs as well as MS updates.

If you are trying to install SP2 from a Windows installation disk that would also run into problems. You can download the full 266mb SP2 to a new folder created on your drive to install from there if needed. The redistributable full service pack can be found at http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Windows-XP-SP2-RTM.shtml

Look for the red download button on the left side of the page to start the large download and save it to a folder. Another problem you may be seeing is the smaller amount of physical memoty installed on the system there. If you have a large number of programs and services running at the same time the amount of memory available is small. Reducing the number of things that automatically load with Windows could help see SP2 installed correctly.

I have had some older boards do that and it was a conflict with a older AGP driver and SP2, try updating your motherboards chipset driver before installing SP2

Are you using onboard or an installed video card. When SP2 first came out people were complaining that you needed everything like games and apps installed and drivers updated before trying to install the service pack. You can try using the msconfig utility to disable all startups temporarily to see if it will go on then.

You kind of double posted there. The file or files you may be trying to delete may already in use by Windows or a program you have. To manually remove any file you first have to end that process or program that may be running in the background. Make sure it's not something important. If a file has a "dll, sys, exe, dat, or other extension" that usually points at a driver, system file like mouse.sys, or data file for an installed application. The exe extension is for executable files that generally start a program.

Thank you Sir,
My local e disk /drive I couldnot even delete or rename any folder /any file.
But I can copy to some other local drive. Kidly advice me

The "E" drive letter sounds like the cd or dvd drive there. The drive with Windows installed on it is seen as the "C" drive for hard drive. Portions of the C drive are off limits due to the few hundreds of megabytes placed there by the Windows installer and are the operating system itself. The "0.2gb" you mentioned earlier sounds like the Windows system files and folders needed for XP to run. You will need to provide a little more information on how many drives are installed like more then one hard drive if installed, more then one optical drive namely cd or dvd drives, a 3 1/2" floppy drive.
