windows xp network connections

I have 2 NICs installed on my Windows XP machine. In Windows XP's "Network Connections" there are two different connections (as expected). One of them says Local Area Connection 2 and the other says Local Area Connection 5. There are other connections that were created in the past that just aren't appearing probably because they're not active. Is there a way for me to view and/or delete these past connections?

Also, on Local Area Connection 2, there is an option for sharing the internet from this interface, across the other interface, to the rest of the PCs on my LAN. This option doesn't exist in Local Area Connection 5. The problem is, the NIC associated with Local Area Connection 5 is the one hooked to the cable modem. I need for the connections to be switched (my NIC connected to my modem needs to be associated with Local Area Connection 2 and my LAN NIC needs to be associated with Local Area Connection 5). Anything fellas???

Why not just plug the modem into the other NIC? And about the naming of the Network interfaces you can just right click on those and rename them whatever you want. Every time you install a new network device windows will increment it by one. So it will be Local Area Connection 6 if you install another NIC. But you can just rename these.
