hi,

i have sucessfully set up windows remote desktop so that i can log onto my business computer from home.

But sometimes i come back to the office comp at work and the CTRL ALT DEL screen is on and saying the comp is locked, even if i didnt log onto the computer, that night?

Is this normal or is somebody trying to hack into my computer?

thanks

Grant

When you login to the computer from a remote location it logs the current person off... If you are on a domain it would log you off or lock it. (there is no log off).

I want to know moer about this too.

Is there anyway to do it wihout the use of MSN Messenger on both ends? Or do I have to create a phonie MSN account just to connect to it?

be careful since VNC is not encytped (at least I don't think).

You want to enable ssh login via your router CP and then use an app like putty to create a encrypted ssh tunnel and then run vnc or remote desktop through that.

as for the log in thing, I believe its for security issues, and it makes sense you don't want to leave the system open if its in a public place.

There is no advanced option in remote desktop to disable this, there may be a reg key or something of the like that can be altered. To me its not a huge deal.

You are confusing Remote Desktop with the Remote Assistance feature of XP. Remote Desktop is different, and the server is only present in XP Pro and certain editions of Windows Server 2003.

Re. the OP's question, that's exactly how Remote Desktop is supposed to work. It presents a login screen so you can enter the name and password to an account that's configured to use Remote Desktop.

On a sidenote, VNC is not encrypted by default but some VPN server/client packages like UltraVNC offer end-to-end encryption.
