Windows Operating Systems

I have a question. Why is Microsoft bringing out new versions of Windows so frequently? It doesn't seem Windows 7 has been out very long.

It's been out almost 3 years already, almost the same as the window between Vista and 7. XP was out for 5-6 years before Vista came out, would you rather have that?

They came out with Win 8 because they need to capture more of the mobile market, plus all-in-ones with touch screens are beginning to take off.

how could you say that 7 has been out quite a long time now

Microsoft want money

the reason they decided to go to windows 8 was because the new latest tech is mostly touchscreen nower days so it wont be long until you do everything that you would usually do on a desktop on a tablet slate

They want to enter into Mobile SO market. Apple is making loads of money, and android is steadily catching up . Windows 8 is designed to run on mobile devices, and i really think it's a real competitor to android. I only hope they do something with that repelling tile-type interface. I like microsoft, but i think they should fire whoever designed those tiles.

Yeah, windows 8 should be called windows touch and run by windows 7 or a new release with a kb and mouse friendly ui, as win 8 is pretty bad with a keyboard and mouse.

W8 works great with a keyboard and mouse.
It just takes some time to change a bunch of settings to get away from the metro crap.
If it sells cheap enough I might buy it.

If 8 is a mobile os, are the desktop users better off sticking with 7? It's not like you can use mobile apps on desktops, right?

For a strict desktop environment, I'd stick with W7 unless you want to spend a lot of time making the changes it takes to turn all the metro crap off.

Maybe they will wise up and make a desktop install option by the final release.
Someone will probably make a script that will change the settings making it painless.
W8 has some things I do like over W7 but I doubt the cost would be worth going to W8.
