Here is my statement of problem:

I am listening to some audio...now whenever i want to switch to another audio it is added to the current playlist instead of being played..

Also when the playlist is finished and i double click an audio file after that it is added to the playlist but is not played..i have to explicitly open up the player and play the file.....It is irritating!!!

Help me........ :-(

The tools>options on the menu bar are set by default to add files played immediately to the media library. You have to review the settings and make sure that is unchecked. You can always remove any track from a playlist as well. Just make sure the delete from computer when deleted from library option is also unchecked to avoid deletion of the file itself.

this isnt working...still it is the same thing!!
the currently played song is not being stopped when i double click to open other song...it is just appended to the playlist!!

Which version of Windows and which WMP are you using there? For XP WMP 10 not 11 is the best way to go. You can also remove the current WMP to see a fresh copy installed to get past the problem being seen there. For Vista you're stuck with WMP 11 which is rather foobar to start with.

i am having xp professional and using windows media player 11. however, in add and remove programs window, there is no option for windows media player!!

When in the add/remove programs sections look at the left column for the add/remove Windows components button found there. You uncheck the WMP item and exit. Later a manual edit of the registry to remove the main key for WMP 11 being "HKey_Local_Machine>Software>microsoft>media player" will remove the 11 item there.

That will prepare you for installing WMP 9 or 10. 10 has the best stuff without need for locating and downloading video codecs for dvd playback and other video files that 9 lacked along with the previous versions. Even while the screen here is taken in VIsta not XP you can still see how to remove the main reg key and everything under it for WMP 11.

You simply type regedit at the Run prompt and open the hive up for Microsoft to scroll down to that one main key and highlight it by itself. You may want to restart the system as well to make sure every part of 11 is unloaded in order to see the installer run for one of the previous players.

by doing the above mentioned procedure PC eye, am i able to install windows media player 11 again in vista because i am unable to do so in xp.....

WMP 11 is included in Vista as part of the newer version. For XP that was an update for for either WMP 9 or 10 there which can be removed in XP. WMP 11 will go back on in XP if you are simply trying to see it reinstalled. But 10 is actually the one most will stay with once seeing 11 removed on an XP system. Vista no longer sees the add/remove Windows components option as seen in Windows since 95.

guess i am not able to figure out what is going on.....could you please help me know that during windows installation, where are the installation files actually stored??

i am downloading windows media player from microsoft and installing it and it is being installed unlike the last one attempt...does different releases of same version make difference??

and i guess this one works this time!!

just one more thing i would like to know... what settings must have been changed during the new install of the media player??

Once 11 was totally unloaded the fresh copy of the older version went on without a hitch. The default settings will be seen with the tools>options being the place to look for setting up your preferences like enabling screen saver playback when playing a cd or an audio file.

11 is the abomination of Vista still here with no video but audio only without a full reinstall of Vista to maybe see that corrected. Yet a look at the MS information shows the "order now" items like PowerDVD and Roxio's dvd software instead of seeing any codecs included as seen with WMP 10.

Avoid automatic updates since 11 will be one of them. For getting everything else use the custom option at the support site to uncheck the 11 option there for the optional software/hardware updates. You can also uncheck the connect online when opening WMP up to avoid seeing the prompts for the update to 11 option in the tools>options.

i'm curious to know y u say 11 isn't good for XP....it has more benefits than 10 (i.e. allowing you to stream media to your 360 or PS3 without a 3rd party app)

i'm just curious as i don't use WMP11 for anything other than streaming....sound quality is poor compared to a program such as JetAudio (especailly if you use a laptop and want a lil more juice out of the speakers)

The structure of 11 is supported like 10 was. There are NO visualizations without "buying" them or dvd playback codecs where you now "buy" something like a PowerDVD or Roxio dvd player addon. Despite the MS claims that 11 will plays dvds in Vista's HP and Ultimate versions "no video but plenty of sound" is heard with 11 in Vista HP here.

The beta and then final release of 11 was tried on XP here at one point and removed. Since that time many have asked how to see 11 gone in order to run 9 or 10. That says a great deal of just what people think about what MS did with the new WMP! No visualizations while having tried Jet Audio, Media Player Classic, VLC, and others.
