Windows backup

What exactly does Windows back up when doing the scheduled back up?
Does it basically make a copy of my computer as it is today? So if I recovered from a back up, my computer would look like it does just now?

Or does it only back up added items, like pictures, documents, music etc?

In Windows 7 I'm pretty sure it makes an image of your whole system as it is now, so if you restored from a backup it would put your whole system back to how it is now.

Not sure about other editions of Windows.

I’m solving one problem and maybe you could help me. First time when you start back up you have to click on “Set up backup”. When you do it you won’t get this message (Set up backup) again.
