Windows 8 built in system backup

Hi Folks,
I am hoping someone can help with the following problem,
I am using windows 8 and have attempted a trial backup to sort out any problems before it is needed.
Using the built in full system backup of windows 8 I ran the full backup for drive C ie the windows drive and it worked with no problems and I checked the external drive to see if the backup was present and it was on the drive, so far so good.
next I try to reinstall the backup and windows says that it cant find the backup drive.
Well it found the external backup drive easy to do the backup so why cant it find it now so I can do the reinstall.
Its only five minutes later
I have tried it twice with the same result.
Hope someone can help,

What are you exactly trying to reinstall from the backup?
Some of the programs or the entire operating system?

Because you usually need to clone the entire drive in order to be able to return that back later.Backup only backs up some of the most important data (including the one you want too if you have a choice),but not everything such as the entire operating system files and everything else.

Hi, Thankyou for your reply,

Windows 8 System backup does a whole drive backup including Widows, it is a clone of the drive.
This is what I want ie a full copy of the drive including windows and all the programs etc., this would save me a lot of time being as all this info is in the backup so that if the computer gets too stroppy to use I can reinstall the drive at once.
I do know that the backup would be out of date if I left it too long before I did another backup but that's the plan.
I fact windows 8 system backup does not allow you to reinstall only parts of the backup it must be all or nothing, but in this case that is what I want.
What I am baffled with at the moment is that widows could find my external backup drive to do the backup but as soon as it had finished I tried to reinstall the backup as a trial run and windows says it cant find the drive.
There is no provision there for me to tell it the pathway to the drive

Adrian

Hi Again Folks,
Its not looking good about getting help with my problem of backing up windows 8, only 2 replies so far.
I did think a few of you computer wizards might be able to help.
Perhaps not many of you have Windows 8 yet
I would not have purchased windows 8 if I had known how it is, I works ok but I don't like changes at startup, I am a traditional windows user and this one is not like windows, I might reinstall Windows 7 but I know we all have to go foreward, its not good to be too early installing a new system before reading a few comments from other early birds because no one has had time to find the bugs.
With my problem I could reinstall windows 8 to see if the problem has gone, that might fix it but its a lot of work reinstalling all the stuff that is on that drive ie the programs and other things, that is why I wanted a full system backup available.
