My problem here in our office is that i am trying to connect 20 computers to a computer with a printer but after 10-12 computers there is a message that prompts me that i have already reached the limitation. Windows XP home or pro?

A workgroup can only connect 10 computers. (I have never tried more.. so it might allow up to 12). You need your network to be part of a domain but that can only be accomplished if you have windows xp PRO clients and a windows server set up as a domain controller... or if you go the Linux route, you need software like Samba. There is also the AS/400 path, but I know little about that other than typing the words: IPCS and NetServer.

there is no way you can connect 20 PCs together with crossover cables

all 20 0r even 10 connect at the same time to print, i find that hard to beleive. What you need is a print server. They are small , about the size of a router. get a parallel one or usb.... or as i installed the other day for a customer... a wireless printer from HP.
