Dont know why allways had and brought Logitech or panasonic equip for myslef and it looks better samsung seems to be new in the TV and sound game would personally wait a few years to see what others think

I would say the logitechs. Superb performance. I've gamed on them with an xbox/ps3/and computer. You would want to have sex everytime you hear something coming out of those THX certified babies.

Has anyone tested the Z-5500s with hard rock/metal music?

I was reading some reviews, and some people were saying that rap and hip hop was fine, but hard rock/metal didn't.

Also, is it worth it to get a sound card? I'd need it to be external, since I don't have an available PCI slot, due to SLI and the aftermarket coolers.

Thanks.

Look into the Onkyo SR-800. My parents have the system and it's beastly. It'll completely blow any computer speakers out of the water.

They sound pretty good with all music. They strip a lot of the mids out though, so while metallica (who have absolutely nothing in the middle) sound feckin huge, more middly rock stuff can sound a bit odd (but you adapt in seconds, and all is good in the world again). To be fair though, most 5.1 systems are gonna do the same unless the satalites have 4" or preferably 5" drivers.

Their forte is definately dance/trace/atmospheric stuff though - it sounds devastating.

Without hearing the samsungs I can't really recommend either, I'm sure they're very good, with the bonus of a blue-ray player. They are also designed for home cinema stuff, whereas the z5500s are made officially for computer use; logitech have probably coloured the sound considerably to make games sound impressive - perhaps they won't fill a bigger room with film sound as well? Meh, I'm rambling

Alright, yeah, I'm looking for speakers for my computer, TV/Movies, and a console. I like to play my music loud, and have it be distinguishable, and sometimes play it louder than usual, like for a party or something..

I'm sold with either or, I just want to know which would be best for me..

Are they coming out with a new version of the Z5500s anytime soon?

Thanks.

z5500s are great then, no idea if they're making a replacement, but I can't really see what could be improved. They go properly loud btw, you certainly won't want for level (but bizarrly when I plug in my old ibook the level is really low (using the mini jack in), obviously the output of that laptop is pretty low), they can be pretty deafening.

Only thing to consider is their dodgy reliability - my first set was dead on arrival, and I've read plenty of stories... You'll get the years manufacturers warrenty anyway, but it might be worth buying another 2 from somewhere.

For what you're suggesting, a bit of gaming, music and film from computers, they'll be perfect, no need to spend more on the samsungs.

Who knows! I can only say the z5500s are good and well worth having.

But if you can get the Samsungs for little more, you effectively get the blueray player thrown in...

For a computer setup, with my money, I'd have the logitechs simply because of the control unit, which is nice to have sitting next to your screen. On the downside that control unit has to be less than 1.5(?) meters from the sub, so it limits your placement choices. I imagine the samsungs might be a bit more flexible in that respect.

I can tell you right now, the Z5500's i have are the best speakers i have ever owned, they are GREAT. I listen mostly to metal/rock and they are great speakers. Love the control pod/remote:D

Yeah, I'll look more into the Z5500s. What's a good external sound card?

And I really wouldn't use the Blu Ray a lot, since I have the Apple TV.

Thanks.
