Which sound is better?

or the onboard high definiton audio of this mobo:

I have a black, a green and a yellow cable going into my old sound card, I dont know what adaptor id have to get to make it work for my new computer's mobo.

or whether I should bother if i am not going to notice much sound difference.

Generally speaking, people compare old sound cards like the Audigy 2 ZS to modern on-board audio.

I'd still take the old audigy though. Has EAX support and all that, most likely better sound quality as well.

If you can spare $30 or so, a brand new Asus Xonar DG costs about that much, and it's one of the best sound cards for that price.

I see, its the same story as with the graphics, like how my old 6600gt is now comparable with hd graphcis 3000.

To test it, get good quality earspeakers and then go hear a mp3's 320Kb or better bitrate in a mobo sound card and in a audigy card ...
