It's time to replace my DSL modem again. For a dozen years I have had to replace the DSL modem about every two years.
They seem to simply slow down to the point of less than 1.0. This last modem/router is a Quest PK500.
It has worked great for a little more than 24 months until three days ago my wife started complaining about the slow internet.
I went to speedtest.net and the down speed was 1.2. I installed my oldest westtell modem with my old Linksys wireless router, and tested the dsl line.
The speed was 6.02. I'm paying for 6.0 which is the best I can get for where I live.
I know the speed will not last due to the age of the old modem. that's why I replaced the modem years ago, but the old modem will gine me great speed for at least a week until I get anew modem or combination modem/router.
My question is; Is there a better modem on the market that will last more than two years??
My home is in the country, and maybe the power of nature is stronger out here, but for ten years I have to replace the modem every 24 months or so.
The old modems do not die, they seem to just slow down to a crawl. Once they cool off they work fine for a day or two and slow again.
I've tried putting a modem on a timer that cuts it off at 11:00 at night and turns in on at 5am, that's works for a while.
I've even put a cooling fan on one modem and it lasted for 30 months, then slowed down to a crawl.
At my house modems have a two year lifespan, they don't die they crawl.
Is there a better modem you can recomend?
