Where to find thinner cat5 cables?

The one I have now is standard size I believe. It's just much too thick for the project I'm working on. I've seen a few sites that offer ultra flat cat5 cables, but I'm looking for something with a smaller diameter so it's easier to wrap up and store in this cable compartment I'm using.

If I can find one with the same diameter as a USB cable cord, that'd be perfect. However, I need some suggestions on where I would be able to find it.

The problem you have is that cat5 cable is twisted pairs and can't be flat. I've never seen flat Cat5 wire. Got any links?

Cat5e is already pretty thin(24awg), not sure what you are doing but you are best off just making a custom length cat5e cable as to not have to wrap any extra up.

Apologies, I guess it was for a Cat5e cable: http://www.vpi.us/cable-sf.html

I don't need any flat wires though, I just need the cord to be slimmer. The cat5 cable I'm using (13ft) acts as a main console cord for a controller. One end would fit into a RJ45 jack installed in the controller, and the other into a mini-din 8 connector, seen here: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=CP-2080-ND

I have that setup installed right now, but the cat5 cable is too fat for me to wrap up and store in the controllers cable compartment, and also too thick for me to shut the cable compartments door.

I don't think there is anything you can do. Cat5/5e cable is UTP=unshielded twisted pair--meaning there is no shielding to shave off to make the cable any thinner.

Perhaps you can remove the outer layer altogether? You'd have to crimp the ends back on though.

One solution I found was to use an actual playstation 2 extension cord in the cat5 cables place. It has enough wires to work with the RJ45 jack and is thinner. Only drawback is that the longest cords I've found are only 6ft in length.

I suppose I can make longer cords and attach them to the extension cord with the mini-din connectors. I was just trying to avoid this to save money.
