when the screen darkens

how to brighten the screen? For some reason it became dim. I know there's a way to brighten the screen, but am unsure how to get started. Can anybody help?
 
function (FN) + F8

on my Toshiba laptop the keys mentioned above will turn
off the laptop screen and redirect to to the video output
to use a monitor.

does this mean to just press the button on the top row that says f8? or are there some extra keys that I need to know about?
If this turns off the screen, then how will I turn it back on?
What is to be done at the video output?
 
You hold the key that's labeled "FN" and the key at the top, that's labeled "F8". Doing this will brighten your screen.
Some laptops are different, but this key combo is common. What laptop do you have?
 
meed specific model so its an HP what model hp. also if you look at your keys there are pics on the key to show what each function is
 
This is the information that I could find: it's HP Pavilion Entertainment PC and its processor is AMD Turion (tm) 64 x 2 Mobile Technology TL - 62. Not sure where to find more information.
 
Your laptop will dim your screen to save battery life. There are simple programs or sidebar gadgets you can get that will let you control the brightness.
