If I were to hook a mixer directly into my sound card, what would be a good choice. The card i have now makes anything i put through it sound like a tin can (using for guitar)

the connection is like this:

Guitar->Amp->Mixer->Soundcard

For a recording soundcard, I reccomend the M-Audio Audiophile 2496.

This soundcard has the capability to record in 24 bit floating point at 96KHz. You really can notice the difference (you tend to get higher highs, lower lows, and overall just a higher dynamic range) from if you've been recording at 16/44.1 for a while.

i'm not a m-audio fan. i like the Presonus Firepod. gives you 8 channels of phantom powered recording. independent channels. also firewire.

i have a pretty good card for music and gaming right now, think i should get an external card speifically for recording? My friend has a lexicon that is pretty good...
