I have a direct tv box in my room but its not a hd receiver, however, there are other hd receivers in my house and do receive hd signal. My question is can I hook the non-hd receiver into my pc with a tv tuner or just run the coax cable straight to a tv tuner in my pc without the box? And how would i receive hd signal? And if there are any suggestions as to what a good tuner would be I would appreciate it. Thanks

No idea on the Direct TV aspect of this so my thoughts are just PC and tuner card.

Short answer geta HP (cant spell it without looking it up Haupauge?) 1250.

The HP 1250 is $50-60 has a remote and good software. 1 tuner

Issues 2 tuners or 1? The free HD will be OTA and not on the cable, at least not for me. I bought an amplified antena also.

I also tried the HP2250 for $120 and the box shows it is a 2 tuner card but it is BS, only one of the 2 coax inputs work for TV, the other is radio. Some HP cards that are not xx50 "50 series" but 1600 "00 series" ect do not work with W7, just get a 1250, it works on both coax or OTA, no cable decoder (like comcast etc). Bypass the Diamond 650 that I show in my sig, junk.

If you are trying to make your direct tv work on your computer you should probably call DTV? Hope that helps.

My guess is if you don't want to use a box, you'll have to get a tuner like Gabe63 stated. You'll want one that receives QAM, then you'll have to attach an antenna to receive OTA HD.
