X58 is essetially the same price. PC Power & Cooling all the way, best 750W on the market(Seasonic internals). X58 is triple channel memory, 32 lanes total pcie, and more pins for voltage delivery. The Coolermaster 690 is the best case for the price. P55 for i7 is a waste of time and money imo, X58 is maybe $50 more if you go with decent stuff and far better overall:

Mobo:

Or a few bucks more and better:

Memory:

For GPU Definately get a 5850 or 5870.

IMO, I won't say I7 with P55 is waste of money if running single video card. It save money on mobo. I would definately downgrade to the $125 Gigabyte mobo instead of that $170 Asus.

If you are after cheap X58, I personally would suggest $160 Asrock instead of Foxconn, purely due to the function Asrock offer

Asrock are super low end boards, they are the low end division of asus. The foxconn is the best X58 board in the price range, far better than asrock's offerings.

made a few alterations to the list....what if anything would you guys change now?

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 6GB
Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield
Asus Rampage II GENE or the foxconn
Sapphire Radeon HD 5850
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 6GB
PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W Quad
RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower
Windows 7
WD Caviar Black WD6401AALS

Well...if your willing to spend that much towards the mobo might as well get this:

Might as well do the extra $5 and get over 100gb more storage:

okay..., the storage I'll defiantly do that, but like I mentioned before I'm not too good with stuff like this I just want to make him the best computer I can and from reviews I've read across the net most people say that ASUS is better than Foxconn, so why do you recommend the Foxconn mobo?

both Asus and Foxconn are good brands of bnoards, each have their little perks and each have their little faults, but both are great manufacturers

The Bloodrage GTI is one of the best motherboards on the market for the money. In fact, the newest revisions have a resistor changed so that it can hit higher pcie frequencys, and can overclock to levels near that of the Evga X58 Classified!

Not to mention that foxconn is the oem for hundreds of companies. They make the logic boards for PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, Ipod Touch, Iphone, Apple products, and alot more as well.

Cant go wrong with that 5850, best gpu for the price;)
