what to do with broken monitors?

so...i have about 4 or 5 monitors that are, as far as i can tell, broken beyond repair. so i have a collection of these monitors since, well, i'm a hoarder.

can you guys think of anything clever i can do with these? i have varying sizes and varying brands from a 4:3 19" monitor to 16:9 24" monitor

Are they CRT or LCD? If they are CRT build a computer inside it. If they are LCD take out the internals an use it for a picture frame.

my monitors are lcds...but now i wish i hadn't thrown out the old crt...building a computer inside it is a cool idea!

i thought of the picture frame thing...but was hoping for something else :) thanks for the idea though

i had an old 15" lcd that started on fire so me and my friend smashed the crap out of it with a baseballbat, axe, air hammer, etc. it was fun

How do you know that they're beyond repair? A common problem with LCD screens is blown out capacitors, often in the power section. This is a pretty simple fix. Most repair places will say that you need a new monitor or PCB, but anyone with basic soldering skills can fix it.

I fixed the monitor I'm currently using by replacing 5 blown caps with replacements that I jacked from dead motherboards.

^^ It's near impossible to sell or even giveaway older crt monitors

All of mine are working but, just collecting dust and taking up space
