What Sound Card should I get?

Hey guys im looking for a new sound card. I have the Sennheiser 598 HD's headphones and need a sound card need a new sound card. I do a LOT of gaming but need it more for music then gaming. Any recommendations?

Well it all depends on your budget.

But my suggestion would be anything from the Asus Xonar line

Xonar DX
Xonar Essence
Xonar Essence STX


From personal experience with several different model of creative cards,Stay away from Creative their drivers are really bad!
 
I agree with the creative comment, stay away from them. HT|Omega is also good, look at the Claro II or Claro XT. If you are limited to PCIe, then you are stuck with Asus though.

What type of slots does the Claro XT fit? just any type of PCI slot or a specific type?

Agreed on the card suggestions but the only issue I've had with creative drivers is not being able to use my mic with a cheaper x-fi for some reason, the software was bugged out.

+1 on the ST or STX, best cards out there, very easy to change the op amps to compliment your headphones, plenty of hardware mods to do as well if you're into that. See my sig for which op amps I use in mine.

FYI you will want your source (music files) to be lossless WAV or encoded with FLAC. I use EAC to rip my CD's which does a really good job.
