What setup do I need?

Hello! I had a question about a setup.

Here's the situation:

I need a way for two computers to share the same applications and data located at a central place. I want two people to be able to login into a central computer at the same time having access to the same data and programs, yet have access to their e-mail separately using some program like Outlook.

Is this possible, or can I do something very similar?

Right now I have been experimenting with Remote Desktop Connection. It's ok, but you can only have one user logged on at the same time.

Thanks much appreciated!

what programs and apps do you need to be shared, and do you have much experience with server setups?

We are currently using:

- Microsoft Word/Excel/Publisher/Powerpoint/Outlook
- Trueforms
- Form Pilot Home
- Tenant File
- Quickbooks 2011

Also, unfortunately I haven't had much experience with server setups.

are you using common data sources for all the users?
(meaning, could you set it up with independent computers with the programs and network the data?)

I dont think (far from an expert) that there is a war to run the programs through network (aka central source). However if you were to setup the programs on the individual computers, its very doable to fetch data from the network to do the work (do this all the time at school).

Hmm. That's sounds good. So any idea on how to approach this?

EDIT:

I do have a spare xServe G5 and an xServe G5 cluster node available.
