what kind of storage would probably be the best way to serve as a storage?

i have a lot of memorable family photos and videos in my computer that is something so valuable to me and i want to keep it for the rest of my life. I know it is impossible to have something never gone wrong or damaged, but i am looking for a solution which reaches a compromise between economic and stability.. i used to save something valuable in harddisk (internal one) but the harddisk could go wrong one day without any signal... and that only lasts for 2 years, i am extremely upset about this. i also tried using DVD to save things, they actually last much long than harddisk (at least in my experience) but i also had some DVDs that were well maintained but gone wrong.... i would like to know, in my situation what is the best way to store my family and travelling photos and videos.. there are so many and they are very large in size that i think online storage would not be a good way to do so. Or is that DVDs already the best way to store things?

Thanks everyone in advance

How big are all the files total? Best way to do it is to keep multiple backups, such as two external hard drives with the same things on it. If one fails, then just buy another one and recopy everything to it. The chances of having both drives fail at the same time are very thin. You could also consider online storage, like a cloud service, but that could potentially have problems.

hey, i would like to know if there are any direct physical cable that can transfer all files from one external harddrive to another in a faster way than using copy-and-paste from windows? because the files are hundreds GBs...they include all family photos and videos, travelling videos..and recent year's HD video shot etc...

Sorry to say there is no faster way. Unless your motherboard has USB 3.0, you can buy 2 USB 3.0 drives and it will be faster.

Or you could even buy a USB 3.0 adapter that would plug into your motherboard:

Keep all of them in one main folder with sub-folders. then just copy them when you go sleep. that is what I do when I do clone disk or copy entire disk.
Cheers
