So basically the thread title? Well not that simple, you see I want to get a new HDD soon, so I will need a new OS, so what is the Beta like and I want stuff like; When will it end? What do you need to do when it finishes? all that.
Also, do I pay for it, since it's a beta, also, I go to LAN parties, so is it capable for LAN without hassles like some of the Vista's?

Much appreciated.

some people say windows 7 is what vista should have been, or that it should be an upgrade to vista, SP2? i haven't tried vista, and probably never will, but 7 packs lots of eye candy and lots of functionality for touchscreens.

you can find these answers in the Windows 7 faq page:

Windows 7 Beta downloads are no longer available. You can still register for a product key or look up the key you've already gotten.

The Windows 7 Beta will stop working on August 1, 2009.

To continue using your PC, please be prepared to reinstall a prior version of Windows or a subsequent release of Windows 7 before the expiration date.

Windows 7 uses what is called Homegroups to network between windows 7 machines, you should still be able to create a Workgroup or Domain for older versions of windows.

I love Windows 7. It is fantastic to use and I never noticed any bugs. The only problem I had was that my wireless internet device's drivers aren't compatible with Windows 7. So sadly I'm not running it anymore. I didn't have any other driver problems though.

As zombine said you can't download it officially from the ms website anymore. However search the internet and you will find other ways of downloading it. As for the product key, just get it from the microsoft website and you should be fine.

I'm running it as my primary os and have had 0 issues including drivers. It works great and its only in beta so I think we can expect a good upcoming os! The UI is a little different but it works very well once you get used to it.
