I am moving into a new home. The home already has a cable modem hooked up upstairs and i am moving in downstairs. What would be the easiest thing for me to do to hook up my computer to the modem?

Do you have cable downstairs? If so unplug it and move it to the other sable port... If not just hook up a wireless router to the cable modem. For the second options you will also need to get a wireless card for your desktop/laptop.

no i do not have cable downstairs.. only upstairs... is there anything i could do that would be cheaper then getting a wireless card and router?

A normal router and run the cable from up to downstairs.

A router is only good for multiple connections.. He did not ask about hooking up a couple computers..

im sorry .. i wasnt clear, there is a computer hooked up upstairs.. i have anohter computer i wnat to hook up downstairs... i have been told that the best way to go would be to get a wireless router... if i wnet that way would i have to buy two wireless cards for each computer or just one for my computer?

that depends, you could get a wireless router. Connect the upstairs machine to the router via normal wires (because the upstairs is where the modem is) and buy a wireless card for the downstairs machine only.

thanks guys for all your help... i got it all hooked up and working excellent with a wireless router and usb adapter!

Is there any way I can make my wireless network connection stronger? The signal is very weak and cant even open up webpages half the time.

how far are you from the router?? how many walls etc
It should be able to cover most of a house quite well.
What wireless protocol are you using g or b, b has more issues with walls :)
