What's a firewire and like what can it be connected to? I'm asking because I've seen firewire cables at the dollar store..have no idea what I could connect them to though...I thought firewire was faster than USB?

Just wondering if I could connect an external HDD to firewire cable from dollar store?

FireWire is faster than USB but it's not that popular because it's a little more sophisticated than USB.

Facts(and from my knowledge alone):
-Created by Apple
-Sometimes referred to as i.Link or IEEE 1394
-may have 63 simultaneous devices connected

Usually it's on hard drives and people like me will go with it because of the slightly higher transfer rate. The first iPods used FireWire as opposed to USB. I remember my first contact with FireWire was looking at a cable and thinking "What is that?"

A lot of digital camcorders have them to. Whenever you record footage off of a tape (say, MiniDV), most of those will be through a Firewire cable. It provides a faster connection.

However, firewire is expensive. USB is generally favored over Firewire because of how popular and simple it is.
