What Info gets sent with Wi-FI

My work has 2 wireless networks. One free and one for employees. Now I work nights and have the liberty of lots of free time. Id like to use my laptop to connect to the guest network so i can get passed all the blocks on the employee network (I cant connect it to with laptop but can use office computer).

Im curious when you connect to a wireless server what info do they get from you? Would they even notice someone connecting every night? This is a huge wireless network in the city, Im sure people connect to it all the time who arent supposed to, Im wondering how noticable it might be for me.

I just dont want them to see that Im not really working half the night.

Any idea how much something like this might be monitored?

My windows is registered to my name, which I didnt really think about when I was filling it out, a friend told me that was pretty dumb just in general but oh well.

So basically think I could get away with connecting every night for a few hours? Are connections even monitored on a network like this? I wouldnt be doing anyhting illegal or anything mostly playing games which employee network blocks out, so I cant imagine it drawing any attention, but I just wanna know before I do it. Its not a lose my job type situation (even though it says not to connect for employees but that is because it is unsecure and therefore not safe) and i dont have to sign up to connect I just close out when it asks and I connect. I just wanna avoid that akward conversation if i get found out.

Any info helpful, thanks.

You said the free internet you are connecting to is run by the city, then your work will have no knowledge of it. IF you company is running it, they can see exactly what you are doing, they just need to pay attention.

As trizoy says,if it is run by the city then your company can't really stop you. And you can disable file/printer sharing on your computer and change it's name so that it appears differently/doesn't appear at all on the network.

Although this sounds a bit suspicious to me:
My windows is registered to my name, which I didnt really think about when I was filling it out, a friend told me that was pretty dumb just in general but oh well.
Why would you not want to register windows in your name?

its not owned by the city its owned/run by my work its in the middle of the city though so im guessing they get lots of connections=/

and he said theres no reason to give out that much information to anyone, i dunno i guess he's one of those conspiracy peoples
