I've been told I hafta do a system restore (the reason for this I won't explain here) on my six month old gateway w/vista 64. Restore date has to be all the way back to factory settings. I'll lose, & hafta store txt files, photos, etc, but what about ms word I bought a month after I bought the computer?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but i thought that system restore does not delete programs and files, just reverts all settings to do with Windows back to the chosen setpoint.

Doug.

Basically there are 2 types of system restore, but actually one is called system recovery. System restore is program built into windows that will set the system back to a day where everything was working fine should you have a problem. System recovery is installed by the computer manufacturer, which will bring the computer back to day 1 when you bought it. Look in the documentation because usually you can do nondestructive restore, which will save save all documents and programs or a destructive restore which will delete everything and you will have to start from scratch.
