Hello just, My mom is planning to buy a netbook. (cause its cheaper than laptop )
Though I said I'ts better if she get a laptop, so any suggestion if a netbook is worth the buy?

It depends on what she wants to do with it. You need to give more detail to get useful, relevant responses.

Browsing the net, occasional letter writing etc., more than good enough. Video editing and gaming, not good enough.

Netbooks don't have optical drives, so watching DVDs or ripping CDs is out.

You pretty much need a wifi connection to do anything on a netbook...

Netbooks are good for your everyday user, the only reason some may prefer the laptop is is more power and will be able to run more task at a faster pace.

Netbooks are smaller and lighter so are better suited to carrying around than a laptop but have some limitations because of that lighter weight and portability. I have and use both, they each have their place.

The fact that a netbook doesn't have an optical drive hasn't been a major issue for me. I purchased an external USB DVD burner for my netbook but find that I never use it so it was a waste buying it.

Agree with that. Have a 17" and nothing portable about it. Have a netbook and light weight and easy to carry around. Suggestion would be from me a note book. med size. find a 6v or 9v battery if possible. likely have a bit of both worlds. Smaller, reasonable portability and might be good for stationary and set in place. Every day use and stationary in the house would not be a netbook. Likely be hard.

I'd always prefer a mid-size laptop over a netbook; especially at work. When I'm bored I play Oblivion on my laptop :D

I vote netbook, I used ot have one but unfortunately lost it, my gf now has laptop and there isnt anything i do on her laptop i couldnt do with the netbook. If your not wanting it for games, why do you need the extra power?

And for browsing etc just use a fast browser and your good.

Netbook gets my vote all day.

What kind of ports do netbooks have? That is important if you like to use it a a general purpose small computer to surf the Web or use it as a word processor. If it has a couple of USB ports, you are all set, you can use printers, external hard drives, optical readers, etc. as you need them.

I am pretty sure your mom does not play games and do not do any heavy programming so netbook will be more than enough for her.

I find netbooks to be aweful. Their keyboard are just tiny, same with the screens. They tend to be horrible slow (thus you can't do much on them). I would just go for a regular small notebook in stead (13') which you can get pretty good prices as well and will be much faster.

Netbooks are pretty useless imo. They're slow, lack all kinds of features, they're too tiny to type effectively on, ect.

I've had both and I find there's not much difference in portability between my old netbook and my 15" laptop.

Realistically tablets have killed any viability for netbooks.

I have a netbook and lightweight. Not useless yet. Traveling works well, paying bills etc. Its a straight shooter for business. The Asus works well for general use and a throw away. Battery is small though. 3v but a gift from family.
Still like toys.

Use it sitting on the patio and hooking up to tv works well and small. use
wireless keyboard and mouse.
