What are some general ways to make your computer overall faster and more responsive? Give me any tips you got. maybe you could even give me a few links to sites that can help me. Im looking to make my computer fast, responsive, and reliable. im talking about clicking, open up programs, and getting around my computer almost instantly. Are there ways to make my computer load faster when i turn the system on?

thanks:)

Defrag your hard drive, I use defraggler.

Run some malware/virus scans.

Run a registry/drive cleaner program, I like CCleaner.

Basically with your configuration there isn't much you can do, except maybe run a bare XP system. Even that with latest updates will be sort of slow. If you install Office on it, you will be much slower. If you install virus scanner, you will be crawling.

With your config I suggest bare XP system, with Firefox + noscript and adblock. No virus scanner.

Time for upgrade.

hey premier, what are some of the specific things you noticed in my system that made you say what you said? I was just wondering because i just recently bought this computer about 3 months ago. cant i just buy a better processor or something?

i don't know why they would put 4gb ram and windows 7 (32-bit ) on that single core cpu. seems rather absurd.

how long have you had your computer? if you just got it, then it's probably slow due to trial programs and other crap that came preloaded on it.

you should first wipe all that and see if it improves.

Besides all the scanners i would use lighter programs. Instead of using IE or firefox I would use chrome. Get rid of all unnecessary startup programs. Have an antivirus program ready but don't let it run in the background.

CPU: Intel® Pentium® M Processor SU2700 :1.3 GHz

Perhaps you could upgrade it. I, so to say, quit technology long ago thanks to conversion to Rastafarianism. Since processor is new you should be able to upgrade it. But the one you have right now, single core 1.3 GHz, man it's almost like 1999 all over again. That's the year of your technology, as far as processor speed is concerned.

Is it worth upgrading?

Need to take a look at motherboard.

But as an MCSE I can say that your processor is your bottle neck. If you follow some speed up techniques other users posted and don't get what you want, your processor is what's holding you back.

Memory is so cheap nowadays that it's cheaper to put 4 GB than 3 GB in there.

We need to know her/his motherboard specs in order to suggest a processor upgrade. Right now is the time to upgrade, that old processor could be sold on eBay and new one bought, so that difference in money spent is small.

Processor is what's holding that computer back, IMO.
