I have a router, or i think thats what it is. But it has a DSL port, which doesnt fit the normal Ethernet cable.

It has a DSL port, then LAN 1,2,3,4. The LAN ports fit the ethernet cable but DSL doesnt. So i was just wondering what exactly went into the DSL port.

Ok that makes sense. So i cant plug it into the wall which is RJ-45, im assuming. What can i do with this thing?

DSL to wall with RJ-11 cable
router to computer with RJ-45 cable.

its a pretty common configuration, at least in the UK thats the case.

u just plug a rj-11 cable in the dsl port to a dsl filter connected to the phone socket.:)

where do i get a DSL filter? and why wuld i plug it into the phone socket, wuldnt that be slow.

Ok, basically you have a DSL Modem/Router combination there. That is really only any use to you if u get DSL service, for you will need ones of those. DSL internet is high speed internet and you can get it from verizon or a company such as that. DSL uses your phone lines in your house but unlike dial-up, it utilizes a much wider frequency and therefor is ALOT faster.

DSL is an always on connection. IF you do decide to get DSL, this device you currently have will not help you much considering verizon usually gives you one free when u sign up. So you will then have 2.

u just plug a rj-11 cable in the dsl port to a dsl filter connected to the phone socket.

No, you would not plug your DSL Modem/Router into a dsl filter. When you get DSL, verizon supplies you with DSL filters that you must put on all your PHONES otherwise you will get ALOT of static because of the dsl. The filters will FILTER out the dsl so u don't get static talking on the phone.

Hope this helps.

about the filter thing ... just a crappy splitter could do the job well it has 1 input and 2 outputs
i'm using one since 2002 and it's working well all u have to do is plug the main phone line into the splitter and the other 2 ... use one for the phone and one for the router ....
maybe this is the filter u're talkin about i dont know
