Weird problem

This has been happening long enough to figure out, everytime my friend's laptop is off i keep getting disconnected every 1-2 minutes. The laptop(s) have wireless connection, if both of them are off my problem occurs, my desktop uses a cable connection. I've tried another computer and the problem is the same. When any wireless laptop is on my problem is gone. Anyone know what's going on? I always have to leave a wireless laptop on in order to stop getting disconnected every 2 minutes on this computer. I think it has to do something with my wireless DSL router?

Gee running an old TBird I see. Your problem of needing a laptop remaining active suggests that one of the portable units is acting as the host for the router itself. On some setups the host has to remain on 24/7 for the router to remain connected to the ISP where any system can easily connect. That isn't the case with dsl or T1 lines mainly because of a dedicated uninterrupted service. The ISP host account will have to be setup on one dedicated system to see the breaks in connection resolved.
