Probably has a browser hijacker
they can not get to ANY web page, like yahoo or microsoft ?
..and the other pc's are fine ? what OS are they?
what OS are we talking about ?
Their security settings may be too high in IE
in IE click on tools, then internet opts, then the security tab, then click default level, then apply, ok. Then click the advanced tab, then click restore defaults, apply , ok ,then click programs, reset web settings, check the box to restore homepage, click yes, ok , ok , close your browser and open again, should work now.

Thanks for the fast replys!!

He did have web pages on there once, but no longer so i thought it might be a virus or somekind of spyware. I'll check the security settings.

How do I tell what ports are open or blocked?

Thanks again!

I do not think it is a port
what OS ?
is it ALL web sites or just certain ones ?
there are viruses that will block security web site by editing the hosts file
so that the url points to 127.0.0.1 , the loopback address of your NIC
HERE IS HOW TO CHECK YOUR PORTS
start / run / type cmd press enter

type netstat -a to show you open ports that are connected
>>>and these too

Who is listening? Use this syntax: netstat -an |find /i "listening"
Save who is listening to a text file: netstat -an |find /i "listening" > c:\openports.txt
Who is established? Use this syntax: netstat -an |find /i "established"

i think it could be the browser... sometimes you have to redownload the browser or download a different browser... what type of browser are you using? im pretty fond of Mozilla Firefox

sure anytime

i only bring this up because my IE would randomly close whenever i went to a website, and said that there was some error and that it would now close. on other occasions, i'd pull up a IE window and the site would freeze right on the homepage (and my homepage was www.google.com) so that's kinda sad because the homepage is only a couple of words

if the problem seems to continue notify us

that is very common, it is almost always caused by malware ( spyware, virus, trojan and BHOs ( browser helper objects ))

well im kinda glad it happened cuz if it didnt... i would have never been introduced to firefox

and o0o boy does that spyware get me mad... i've download more spyware remover programs in the past than u could imagine

Fixed it.
I just ran Webroot spysweeper and Microsofts one.

It found 116 items and something like over 1000 traces!

Clean now and the webpages are loading. Thanks for the help.

sweet...

but are the programs running at the same, slower, or faster pace than before the problem started occuring?

Its difficult to say really as its not my PC so didn't really know a before situation. It did have a slight LAG on it but it does have a lot of programs installed.

Oh well if he finds it too slow i'll format it for him. Solves it all in a hour! Installing the apps after tho is a pain in the ...

Thanks

Does it really matter or you just trying to get loads of posts in!? :P

Theres so many I just dont want to list them, just the usual stuff like Media player, office, educational programs. I removed the dodgy ones.

There was one (definate spyware/virus) that said:

"Are you sure you want to remove this application? Doing so will result in you not being to view websites with extensions such as .travel"

.travel!!! How stupid is that. There were lots more but I cant remember them.

no im not trying to get my posts in lol

i really think that it's important. b/c some programs on your system could just be taking up space or linking to other programs that are giving you that spyware/viruses that you are talking about

i just think that you should try and keep ur programs to a minimum in the sense that you don't have any programs that you never use or ones that were downloaded to ur system w/o ur knowledge
