Webcam Hack??

Ok, I read somewhere that people can hack into other's webcams and view them without permission even when they are switched off??? Just doesnt sound right to me but I thought maybe someone could clear this up once and for all....
 
Is this allowed to be disscussed in this forum?

Im not asking how to do it. Im asking if it can be done to my webcam? I concerned about the security of my webcam!!!!

I woundnt think that asking about possible security threats would be a breech of forum rules?
 
It isnt, the thread is perfectly fine as long as nobody replies detailing how it would be done...

In reply to your question, yes, im pretty sure an experienced hacker could do something like that if he/she was given time and resources, its not impossible, but highly improbably considering you are just one of billions of people. Unless you've ticked off some rather large government departments... no one is going to be looking for your webcam in the first place.

Cheers mate. Was just a thought. Considering I only use it for chatting with friends oversea's, I doubt it wld be of any interest to anyone. However, rather concerning that it can be done at all.
