Water damaged hardrive

Hi, my MacBook Pro had a vase full of water spilled on it and is completely dead. I took the hard drive out to try and copy what was on it (which wasn't all backed up). I put it in an external case but it wouldn't respond. So in a final effort I took a circuit board off another identical drive and put it onto the water damaged drive, and this time (when in an external drive case) it fired up, started spinning etc, but the mac I plugged into wouldn't recognise it.

I've tried disc warrior and something called stellar Phoenix but neither of them could find the drive either. Does anyone know how I may be able to get any of this data off the drive, if the drive can't be recognised. I know there are people who can do it for loads of money, but ungortunately I can't afford that...

Any suggestions welcome!

I do not know the answer to your problem but if it wasn’t actually running at the time. I think it would work just fine if properly dried.
I would be surprised that water actually got into the hard drive in such a short time unless it was completely submerged. Are you sure it’s the hard drive and not the power supply. I would expect more so if the power supply would be damaged before the drive.
All most all electronic stuff is washed at some point prior to assembly, but is thoroughly dried. Motors and transformers trap water in the windings and can cause problems from corrosion. Clean water is actually an insulator and it’s the dirt and minerals that cause short circuiting.

Yes, unfortunately it was running at the time, and I was out while if happened so I've no idea how long if was full of water but was totally soaked by the time j got back... I would imagine thd circuit boards and battery are all fried, but was kind of hoping I might be able to rescue some of the data from the drive... Preferably without having to pay a fortune!
