WANTED HIS Radeon 6970

Is there really any game you cannot max out even with the 6990 alone??? lol

I doubt you would really see any difference.

going from a 6950 to a 6970 straight 1 card VS 1 card....sure. But already trifired with a 6990? Seriously, what game are you getting less than 100fps on??? lol

There are significant performance gains to be had from adding a 6970.

The 6990 is not a jesus card. It is very good but if you want to max games using high resolutions found it eyefinity setups, a 6990 will not do it. Or say he wants to run Metro 2033 at 1600p, one 6990 will barely max that game. It may average 30 fps. Adding a 6970 will def help.

ok? 30fps with a 6990, add a 6950 and you should be doing 40fps probably. Whats making it a 6970 gonna do, get you 42-45 fps?

Thats completely maxxed, at 1600p which 99.9% of us do not have. 95% of us probably have 1080p monitors, which a 6990 alone will eat alive any game any settings.

You said there was no need for it. I gave you an example of a need for it. Whats the issue?

A 6990 playing metro maxed at 5760x1080, will get you about 20 fps. And yes some people do play games at that resolution. I have.

Yes I've played 5760x1080 myself, with a single 5830 haha. COD5 I got 50fps average, never below 40. But I didn't really like it for multiplayer as I'm such a fast paced player I only ever concentrated on the center screen. I guess if you were a camper, it'd help. :P

I understand metro is a far more GPU intensive game. I was just sayin there's only a 2-5 fps difference. Is that really worth it? He'd be better off selling the 6950 and getting another 6990.

omg 2 6990's $1200 for 2 cards. never in a life time would i spend that much on cards.
and in 2-3 months a new series is coming out. hd7xxx.
man up and play with one hd6990 lol

Def not buying another 6990 and another psu when i just bought a pretty expensive 1000w psu. A 6970 should supplement and take some of the load off the main card. I think they will have a longer lifespan instead of just working one card.

Unless you are overclocking and overvolting way over what is reasonable for those cards they will last far longer than their useful life. You have nothing to worry about there. Plus adding another card will not decrease the GPU usage. You will get more FPS, and all three GPU cores will be at 100%

Not necessarily true. If you currently have 60 FPS stable and have it capped at 60 FPS (as an example), putting in extra power will not change the FPS, will not change the throughput of data, but as the hardware is more powerful, will decrease the overall load so the cards are not running at 100% if they were before.

May I suggest that:

1. People from now on only reply if they are interested in selling their 6970 to morpheus

2. Create another thread in the video card section to continue a discussion about the topic if you wish to.
