trying to surf safely and a friend told me about vpn's...i search around to get a general idea of what vpn is but my question is

what is the difference in service between buying a monthly subscription to a vpn provider and buying a vpn router myself? don't they offer the same kind of protection?

thanks

Ok, Well first off is: Did your ISP give you a static iP?
If so: How fast is your Download and upload at home?

If your upload speed is good, that's the speed the VPN will be running at when transferring the tunneling back to you. So if you browse the web on the VPN just say in a cafe. You'd be uploading packets to your Home (Like uploading a video) , Your home router would be downloading them (Like downloading a MP3) and then uploading the data back to you and that's all encrypted.

Not to mention: Do you need a VPN? What sites do you visit that need to be encrypted? FaceBook Now has SSL, your bank should hopefully have SSL. Or are you just trying to access your files back home?

I have Comcast perfomance I believe 15 down /2 up plan and i believe it's static but not sure lol

I'll be using VPN for mostly business and some personal stuff
I'll be downloading uploading clients files, photos, videos and tons more of files, web browsing etcccc. I like to have the luxury of being secure when i do this things

hope this makes sense
