Vista not installing Service Pack 1

Hello I am having an issue with my Vista 32bits PC. I just reloaded my PC with Vista Business 32bit and I can't seem to install SP1.

If I go to "Windows Update" it tells me there is an update, which is service pack 1. I then click to install it and it looks like it's installing fine, but when I restart my PC and then look for new updates...there it is service pack 1 again.

If I look into the update history, I can see all the times I've tried to install SP1 and they all say, "Successful".

Even if I type "winver" in the cmd line I doesn't show the SP1.

What is going on?

Download it directly from here and see if it installs.

Then download and install SP2

SP1 has to be installed before SP2 will install.

Now we are getting into the real problem I am having. I have internet explorer 7, which means I can't really open up any web sites because it's so old and out of date. I need internet explorer 8, but how do you install IE8 when my PC will not even open up the web page to get it?

I CAN'T GO TO WWW.MICROSOFT.COM:mad:

Sounds like you have some corrupt files. Can you reinstall windows again and then try updating? What kind of vista install cd are you using?
