Video Buffering Speed

Hi, im new here so was wondering if you guys could help me out with something. As of a few days ago all videos on whatever website (youtube included) take AGES to buffer and play. A 5 minute clip will take 20 minutes. Beforehand they worked fine and I had no issues with this. All other websites and content load perfectly normal so there are no issues there. I did a mcafee sweep of my computer and it found nothing in terms of viruses. I also cleaned out all of my internet history, cache etc. What do you think the problem is and could it be a virus that was missed? Thank you, your help is much appreciated :)

is anyone else using the internet connection if so what re they doing and does youtube etc work ok on there computers?
are you downloading anything in the background at all?
is the computer also slow or just the internet.

run a speedtest here

www.speedtest.net

and post the results this may be and isp issue not the computer

if the speed is fine i recommend you follow these instructions and post the logs so we can see what is running in the background to see if this could be the issue and we can go from there

nobody else is usually using the internet when i do. Videos work fine on my laptop though and my ps3 has no internet issues either. nothing is downloading in the background. for some reason the www.speedtest.net never got past the 'Preparing Download' stage so i used www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk and it said that my download speed was 712kbps and my upload speed was 359kbps. the computer itself is fine as is the internet in general. its literally just videos.

sounds like the speed is ok from the other devices conected although id say that i was a bit slow

have you tried updating the flash player/plugin at all?

not that relevent but im curious is it a desktop pc that has the problem only i was under the impression it was a laptop?

its a desktop pc and yeah i have flash player 10. Ok well i tried turning the router off and on rather than the pc and somehow that seemed to work and videos are much better now. surely that couldn't have been the reason?

that could have been the reason if you said that the other computers youtube and so on were running slow that would have been the first thing i asked you to do
the ip address becomes old or stale thats what we call a powercycle and it refreshes the connection to isp it usually is more of a problem on dynamic ips if i remeber my internet tech support days right
most of the time it affects all pcs on the connection
doing this will fix alot of problems such as yours, slow speed no web pages
