Very Quiet Sound

I need some help, my computer has sound, but no matter what levels I put the sound at it is still very quiet. I've looked around and tried reinstalling my sound control system thing, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

go to control panel click on sounds and audio devices. then check around and see if anythings muted or any of the volume bars are down. and if that doesnt work try reinstalling your soundcard drivers.

This may be stating the obvious but check to make sure your speakers are plugged in the correct line in jack on your soundcard. Sometimes, if they are plugged in line out or something, you will still hear sound but very faint.
