ok.. This is an interesting topic

I used to have Wireless router which i'm totally aware of its functioning.. I just moved to the new house and my neighbour has wireless signal all over my home and I can basically surf the net using my laptop which is wireless enabled (and don't worry the neighbour is nice and allowed me to be on his network)..

Here is the tricky part.. my PC only has ethernet card and no wireless.. I'm just wondering Is it possible to somehow connect my PC to my LAPTOP and use the internet on both computers ?

Again.. My laptop is connected using neigbours Wireless signal..

Please advise..

The best option would be to buy a PCI or USB wireless card for your desktop. But if thats not an option, you may be able to run a crossover cable from the ethernet port on your laptop, to the ethernet port on the desktop. Then enable "internet sharing".

you can. I am doing it right now. You just need a spare ethernet port on your laptop and you are good to go. Basicly, plug an ethernet to your laptop into your computer. Then under control panal, go to network connections. THen find you wireless connection, right click>Properties>Advanced. Then check the box that says "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection". Then press okay, and you should have internet on both computers when the ethernet cable connects to the laptop to the computer.

hi there,

I did that but still no connection..

Should i do any setup on the other pc as well??

Please advise..

for those who say I should go with wireless card there is two issues:
First all of card slots on my other pc is full and since the computer is 4 years old I'm trying to hook it up to the internet temporary and hopefuly get a new set soon..

About the normal cable. I'd just caught myself about 5 seconds after I posted that and edited it. I'd just remembered myself that I used to (this part is funny) have a 300Mhz HP Kayak XA, 64MB RAM, with 2 network cards, and a Linksys hub thing (not a router), and it acted as my internet gateway for a long time before I finally got a router. I still have that computer. The speed was surprisingly fast for such a old computer.

- And I used normal cables. The line from downstairs off of the cable modem came upstairs and into the HP, then out of the HP and into the Linksys box and then finally to the computers. I could never get more than one computer online with the Linksys box connected directly to the line coming from the modem, so one day I broke down and put a computer there for a 'router'.

to be honest with you guys I don't know if I'm using "cross over" cable!

but I can tell you that I used the same ethernet wire that you usually connect from the ethernet card to the router..
I connect that to the laptop's ethernet slot and the other end to the PC ethernet card but there is no connection.. I think I'm doing something incorrectly.
