Using a CRT in 2015?

Are you? Frankly, I doubt it.

However, I certainly am!! My CTX 19" CRT computer monitor is most certainly still in use, as it has been since I acquired it in 2012.

I have to admit, it gives me a certain buzz to know that I am running Windows Vista on a monitor which was probably manufactured before even XP existed, but that's not why I use it.

Why I use it and refuse to upgrade is simply because I have never once had an issue with a CRT monitor and honestly cannot see any difference between CRT and LCD... We have Acer LCD monitors at work and the screen resolution looks exactly the same, the only difference is that the body of the monitor looks (and is) thin and flimsy, whereas my CTX is thick and well built and as I have a deep computer desk, the "bulkiness" is not an issue in terms of storage.

Maybe I am just archaic, or maybe there is some sense in my beliefs. Either way, I will never replace my old CTX.

What are your thoughts on CRT monitors?

was a time and place for a CRT. Plain and simple now the lcd's have great resolution and mostly take up less real estate. CRT just takes to much space.

I actually use a CRT sometimes when my dad needs his monitor back. Resolution is about the same, but the CRT uses up half of my desk. I need space for homework and other stuff on the same table too

To be honest, unless you are LANing, "thin and flimsy" doesn't matter. What exactly do you play on doing with a monitor besides putting it on the desk and leaving it there? Even if you do LAN and move your monitor around a lot, I would still take an LCD over CRT for the fact that it is a hell of a lot lighter, and a hell of a lot smaller.

When you get better resolutions, better refresh rates, better energy efficiency, more environmentally friendly disposal, smaller size, compatibility with new display technologies, it is a no brainer which to pick.

CRT's had their day, and there is a good reason they are so few and far between now.

Yes you are right, a monitor is just going to sit there untouched except for cleaning, but that isn't the point.

Maybe I'm just a bit obsessive, but I cannot feel 100% comfortable about using something (even if it doesn't matter) that is made cheaply.
