i moved my computer back into my room, and now im using the USB wireless adapter i bought a while ago. Problem is, when i first connect, it gets a decent connection at 54mpbs. Then it just slowly starts to slow down, and signal strenght goes down, until it disconnects. Then i have to reconnect and its all back to normal, then the cycle starts all over again. Why is it doing this?

Because it is USB. UAB wireless devices ALWAYS have connectivity issues. It is not just your computer.

Get an internal PCI adaptor or a PCMCIA card if it's a laptop. I've used a couple of USB dongles from various manufacturers and none of them are reliable.

My signal just flucuates so much, one second its at excellent, then its at very low.
From my experience this is common with the USB dongles, especially if your motherboard only supports USB 1.1. Internal PCI cards are a much better choice in my opinion.

I'm not sure whether you have an ad-hoc network (a dongle in each machine) or whether you connect to a wireless router. If it's the former then consider getting a router as the wireless connection seems to be a lot more reliable.
