USB Sound cards

The headphone jack on my laptop got damaged, and I can only get one channel out of it. Would a USB sound card just entirely bypass this? I want to be able to plug in my external speakers into it.
Any recomended ones?

I'd look into trying to repair that connection. It shouldn't be that hard... Plus I have a real problem with USB stuff :-/

Hmm, but it does mean taking apart my laptop which im not too keen about. To be honest, just buying a USB sound card would be much less effort than messing about soldering stuff. It would also give me the chance to get some surround sound speakers later on. If it will do the job though.
