USB Malfunction???

Please help!

Today I downloaded the latest version of Internet Explorer and shortly thereafter I received a message "USB Malfunction...Device not recognized" I was not sure what "device" the message was referring to.

After that, I noticed my LINKSYS Wireless Icon was missing not allowing me to log on to the internet. There are two other PC's on our wireless network which are working fine.

How do I fix this and get my LINKSYS Wireless Icon back???

Thanks,

Cheri

I am not sure how IE would cause a problem like this. It sounds like there may have been a short on the USB bus somewhere or one of your connected flaked out on you.

Which OS are you running?

Do you have a USB WiFi dongle?

Yes I am using a Dongle...and Windows XP. I really hate to bring it in to the shop, but appear to be running out of options.

Thanks,

Cheri

Is it a Linksys wireless adapter (I assume so)? Have you tried pulling the adapter and re-plugging it?

It sounds like that adapter stopped working for some reason. Also, look in the device manager and let me know if the adapter is showing up there at all. You may need to try re-installing the driver.

Yes it is a LINKSYS...and it did show up in my Device Manager. However, still no wireless icon showing. I unplugged/replugged...uninstalled/reinstalled and nothing. Even tried installing in another PC and nothing.

Soooo...I am assuming the USB Wifi Adapter (dongle) is dead.

Thanks so much for your help!!!

:( I'm sorry to say I agree with you. Especially if you have tried the adapter on another machine. Do you have a second adapter that you could try, like one from another computer that is working?
