Uploaded footage to MovieMaker but audio is out of sync

Hi. I'm brand new here, just signed up today in hopes of finding answers to something I posted elsewhere, which I will copy below:
--------------------------------------------------------

I've had this Panasonic digital video camera for a few years. I've made tons of videos and uploaded them to my computer via MovieMaker.

Well, yesterday I uploaded a full mini tape worth of video to the computer and when I went to play it back I found that there was no audio. There WAS and still is audio on the actual tape when I play it through my camcorder itself.

This happened once before, last year or so, and I can't remember how I managed to fix the problem. I've been wracking my brain and Google but still can't figure it out.

Does anyone have any idea what I need to do?

-------------------------------------------

OK, after that, I thought I had it figured out and here's what I posted:

In MovieMaker, after I clicked on "Capture from video device", I clicked the drop-down arrow on "Audio Device". It WAS on "SoundMAX Digital Audio" but I changed it to the other option which is "DVC". Dunno what either of those mean but when I tried it that way it now works fine.

----------------------------

Then I discovered that things really were not quite fixed after all:

OK, new problem. The above solution worked fine but only when I did a brief piece of test footage. But upon uploading the entire hour's worth of tape from the camera to my computer, the audio was off from the video. Like way off. I was watching one scene of some of my family members on a tractor, talking about how to run it, and then all of a sudden I could hear audio from the parade that didn't happen till the next day!

Hoping someone might have some suggestions. Even if they seem obvious, they may not be to me!

When I've done some slideshow movies in WMM in the past, there were some options of indexing the audio and video files and making sure they lined up correctly and how often the program would check it as it was being uploaded. I tried looking around for it on the capture end, but without a device connected it won't let me explore the options... :( Anyway, see if you can somehow add indexing for it. I was also thinking that it could be a codec issue as well, do you know which ones you currently have installed for both the video and audio?

Uh...heh heh....

DCIScouts,

Uh...heh heh...I have no clue what codecs are nor what to do to find out if I have them or not. :(
