Hello. First, I appreciate the fact that forums such as this one exists. I have a question that is of major importance to me but being pretty much computer-illiterate, I do not have a clue what the answer is. I hope that I can explain my question clearly enough for some kind soul to provide the answer.
Here goes...
Where I currently reside, I use Charter High Speed Internet and my older account descriptions shows "Internet Speed: 5 MEGS". Currently, they only offer greater than this. I contacted Charter to see if I might find data on download and upload speeds/rates. No luck.
I then went to a site that says it can measure download speed and rate as well as upload speed and rate. Here are the results:
Download Speed: 18970 kbps
Download Rate: 2372 KB/Sec
Upload Speed: 1062 kbps
Upload Rate: 133 KB/Sec
Whatever these figures mean, my computer and ISP are fine for uploading to my site.
I am going to have to move and so far, the fastest upload information I can find available is listed as "512 KB". My question is whether this figure actually means it is Upload Speed (in which case it is about half as fast as what I have now) or Upload Rate (in which case it is faster)? If it turns out to be half as fast, is 512KB upload capability sufficient for uploading text and photographs to most sites? My wife works from her computer at home most of the time. I have no clue if the 512 KB capability is "enough" for her to continue doing this. Do you believe that this capability will upload alright and w/o timing out but just be slower or is it likely to fail?
I am sorry that I flat do not understand more than this but I am hoping that someone who does can advise me on it.
Thanks in advance and the best to your and yours.
