Upgrade to Asus Xonar DX?

Hi,

I currently use an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card. The sound is great, the drivers are abysmal and it's unsupported for Windows 7, which I may want to upgrade to soon (using Vista x64).

My #1 choice is the Asus Xonar DX, however, would there really be any difference in sound quality between the two? I notice the Asus's SNR is higher, but, that's mostly it. What do you guys think? Anyone who has heard both? The Asus is obviously much newer.

I listen to a few different types of music and appreciate the difference in sound quality, however, I just bought a Blu-Ray player for my PC and watch a lot of Hulu/HD Episodes on Amazon, as well as play a few games.

It almost has the same specs as your old card and should sound the same.

The only thing to be aware of is installation of card in the pci exprees slot as it looks fragile so make sure it is secured correctly.

So, is it even worth it? I can get the Asus Xonar DX for about $28.99 after MIR and selling my M-Audio. Is that worth it for Windows 7 support? I think so... Higher SNR also.

I vote for the Xonar. I have the D2X and i love it. The only problem i had was DDL didnt like any of the stalker games, so they didnt work in 5.1, but thats more the games fault not the card, everything else works great.
