Uni Connection

Hello all

I'm currently on a connection at uni (but not part of the uni network) it is a seperate network for a halls of residence (about 50 flats). The problem is that there are people who obviously have no idea on how to use a computer and have tonnes of spyware which is uploading and taking all the bandwidth, leaving most of us unable to use the internet (or constantly getting signed out of messenger, etc)..

My question is , is there a program or something I can give to the admins (they dont seem to know wat they are doing either) to make sure that the internet can stay a bit more stable and not grind to a halt because of the ignorance of a few people?

Thanks

try the one of the programs: CoolWebSearch, Spypots Search & Destroy, or Microsoft Antispyware Beta, Those must remove and protect your PC form Spyware.

Unfortunately...

...the responsibility to try to avoid spyware mostly comes down to the individual users. What I would suggest is that you contact the admins regarding getting the word out on potential slowdown problems like spyware. Maybe suggest to the admins to start pushing Firefox as an alternative to Internet Explorer. As well, the users should go through a procedure like the following once a week:

Run Lavasoft Adaware
Run CoolWebShredder
Run Spybot S&D

This won't eliminate all the spyware you encounter, but it will make the network as well as your individual PCs more usable.

Bottom line:
Educate the users!
