Turning laptop into digital file cabinet

Hey folks,
I recently picked up a Neat desktop document scanner, with the intentions of going as paperless as possible.

I decided to use an old laptop to hold it all (along with CD, and flash drive backup). I did a factory reset, and uninstalled as much as I possibly could.

My question is, what kind of software, outside of the OEM Neat document management software, could benefit me for this computer's specific duty?

Basically I'm curious on the best document management software for my needs, as well as anything software related that will help my computer run as fast as possible.

Thanks for any advice!

The Neat software will suit you best as it'll put all documents into a set folder.

I can't seem to find any other programs that would work better...

The Neat software allows you to customize things quite a bit to accommodate the files you want to save and you can create new categories and such. Not sure what else you might be looking for.

Sounds good, I'll stick to the Neat software as far as the document management goes.

I guess to clarify the other question a bit, since this computer will only be used to hold an view documents, what other kinds of software/tweaks may help speed up my computer for faster searching, and better overall performance?

Do registry cleaners help?
How about defrag programs?
Thinking even though it'll be offline 99% of the time, I'll install an anti-virus and firewall.

Anyway I'm sure I'll be just fine with the barebones computer with Neat software loaded, but I just figured I'd ask an see if there were anything that'd help me maybe I wasn't aware of.

Thanks folks
