turning a camera into night vision?

I have a nice sony video recorder that has a ghetto night vision function that only works up to about 4-5 feet in the dark... could i buy a sepetate infared light system(i think thats what its called) and mount it on the recorder to turn it into a half decent night vision unit?


does anyone know if i can buy those infrared lights seperatly?
 
uhhh iono hehe... i guess it would be easier to buy one but i would build it if it was just as affective... who you know of a good model that i can get forf cheap?
 
uhh check ebay or amazon... online prices tend to be cheap
but building one is pretty easy... all you need are some infrared leds and a power source (I.E. batteries)
